As you may have noticed Daniel is on a holiday for a few months so in his place we’ve done some slight reshuffles relating to the forums. Merged the MSN and Windows Live Messenger into one, split Non-Messenger code from the Messenger related code, removed IMTiger due to inactivity and turned the Triople forum to read-only as theres no point allowing postings in there as we know the limits and restrictions of the service. Theres a prospect of a forum skin finally being up so keep your fingers crossed. Of course we hope to post a little more then we have of late so come to the forums, post and have a bit of fun!

Did you think Fanatic looked ugly? I did, so I gave it a makeover.
This wonderful theme is known as K2, an advanced open source template for WordPress. It is essentially version 2 of the default Kubrick theme for WordPress, having more heart and soul.
Apart from the header, I haven’t done a lot of design customizing to it, but I will be tinkering with things in the future. The downside here is it’s not unique, you are bound to see similar looking blogs on the internet.
For the curious, these are the plugins I am using:
- Akismet
- Category Image(s)
- Edit Comments
- Extended Live Archives
- Favatars
- Google Sitemaps
- Noteworthy
- Page Links To
- Quoter
- Time Since
- Ultimate Tag Warrior
- WP-Polls
- WP-PostViews
I’m pleased to now be using K2 after discovering it a few months ago. At the same time I heard about Ultimate Tag Warrior and realized the author lives in the same city as me, which I thought was quite cool considering how small New Zealand is.
As usual, if you think I’ve missed something that needs attention, leave a comment or send me an email and I’ll get on it.
What does everyone think of the new look?
I completely forgot about the tab when launching Fanatic Live, so it’s been sitting there like a zombie and probably no one using it. Today I spent a little time getting it working again and updating it to reflect Fanatic Live-ness. Take a look at it, but don’t look at the header – it’s huge, I just pulled the one from here, will get a smaller one soon.
On the topic of tabs, I also updated the TabServe MsgrConfig data, which was long overdue as well, in the next version of TabServe I hope to automate this process or totally remove the concept of storing your own config, instead just editing the live version on the fly.
While I was updating the data, I noticed a new setting:
<PublicFederated> <YahooNetwork Enabled="true" OfflineIM="false" Upsell="http://g.msn-int.com/5meen_ms/177/" /> </PublicFederated>
This was for the US data, and note that it is configured to be enabled. Yahoo! integration must be really close.
I just put up an OPML service for the Blogroll category here, which is second from the top on the right menu bar.
Most RSS readers will allow you to import all the feeds by just providing the URL to it, or uploading it.
Each link in the Blogroll category has a RSS feed associated with it and is the only category which does so. Recommended Links and Blogroll display ten random links for each page load and the Affiliates category displays five random link images. To have a look at all the links in each category, just go to the Web Links page.
Enough dilly dallying, this site is now public. I could keep delaying and doing more work, but it looks like I’ll never be satisfied. As the post at the top says, things are still being worked on, I just wanted to finally launch.
You may have noticed the lack of posting at msnfanatic.com, this is because a) I haven’t had a lot of time, b) there hasn’t been an awful lot to report, c) I was away for most of February, and d) the other posters are lazier than I am?? While I was preparing this site (proudly powered by WordPress), I was posting a lot here during January to properly test it, most of this stuff never made it to msnfanatic.com, but you can still check it out by going to January 2006 under Archives on the right.
Anyway, I hope everyone thinks the feel of this site is better than msnfanatic.com, I am really happy to have finally changed CMS, WordPress is much easier to use. I will post of any major changes and try to keep up with posting about WLM “current events”. I think this site can now be officially called a blog, don’t forget to subscribe to the RSS feed.
If you think I’ve missed something that needs attention, send an email or let someone know on the message board.
