Just months after the limit was doubled from 150 to 300, it has once again been doubled to a whopping 600 contacts. MSN is being very generous this year!

Today I logged into MSN Messenger (7.0.0813), and was greeted with a small tooltip in my contact list that said: “Now you can add contacts using just a mobile number! To do this, click the Contacts menu, and then click Add a Contact.” Upon clicking, the tooltip will take you to the “Add a Contact” screen, which now includes an extra option.
Now you can add a Contact to your MSN Messenger list by just entering their mobile number into the Add a Contact window.
Note: This option seems to be available only to passports set to the US region.

A new build is now available for MSN Messenger 7.0. The Messenger team has done a great job in fixing the top issues that we’ve been seeing in PSS. Kudos to the Messenger team. Well done, folks!
The new build includes fixes for:
- MSN Messenger hanging at sign in with certain NATs.
- MSN Messenger won’t allow the transfer of certain file types such as JPG, PNG, MP3, etc. in some cases.
- Error R6025.
- The main window displays the incorrect status for “Always Sign in As” in some cases.
- Crash when starting PhotoSwap.
- Crash at shutdown after blocking a contact.
- “What I’m Listening To” is now more reliable.
- A certain infamous wink has been removed.
- Fixes for Audio invites not working in some cases.
… and a couple of other fixes as well. Overall, the release is chocked full of IM goodness. Go install it now!

Microsoft has released a Quick Fix Engineering (QFE) Patch to its beta testing team to use on MSN Messenger 7.0.0777, which will update the client to build number 0813. One of the most important fixes this patch brings is the “Always Sign On As:” bug, and it is also said to make the client faster as well as deliver a smoother overall performance when signing in.
Another change I noticed is that the behaviour change explained here has been reverted. This means that build 0813 will send session requests when you open a chatwindow with someone, just like the builds prior to 0777 used to do. This change is mainly noticeably when opening a chatwindow with a bot.
Will this fix the far too common “The following message cannot be delivered” bug? Let’s hope so.
