Just remembered about this emoticon ‘bug’ in Windows Live Messenger which occurs when you hover over the
emoticon and the *-) emoticon in the Show All Emoticons Window.
Not really sure if this occurs with builds of Windows Live Messenger other than 8.1.0178.00, see for yourself
Anyway, look at the screenshot below to see what I mean:

I can confirm this on the french version of WLM (8.1.0178) (assuming the bug is not caused by MPL, but I can’t see how it would)
The bug is also in the Norwegian version, same build - but only for
, not for *-) as described in the text above.
For the *-) one, the text shown for me is “Settings”. Happens on plain install, no addons. I’m guessing it’s an incorrect string reference to the language file.
The bug is also in the turkish version and the same version…
I looked at the dutch version of the MSN live. It also occurs there…
How stuppid, you just have to type it over in another language and still you make the same misstake!
Well it’s time for a new MSN version now???
LE MARQUIS
I’m pretty sure that this bug has been around for atleast 2 or 3 versions.
Same with me Daniel, “settings”. How odd.
:$ I’ve must’ve been tired when I wrote my last comment, bacause also in my Norwegian Messenger the “tooltip text” for *-) says “Settings”…
I’ve looked through all of the emoticons now, and discovered even 2 more errors, but I guess this is only in the Norwegian version, since they look like translation errors:
(au) - says Auto, which hardly make any sence in Norwegian, it should’ve said Bil = Car.
(8) - The English word Note have different meanings, and in Norwegian different words. In this case the words are the same: Note (musical symbol), but the Norwegian translation og Note says Notat, which is a short written message.
