There seems to be an awful lot of people having trouble with running Windows Live Messenger on Windows Vista. One problem I am hearing a lot about is Data Execution Prevention crashing Messenger, preventing it from fully starting up. The issue seems to come down to Acer’s eDataSecurity Management software.
If you have recently purchased an Acer notebook or desktop PC with Windows Vista installed, you can now download a patch from Acer to correct the problem.
Leave a comment on whether or not the patch fixes the problem for you – I’m interested to see if there is anyone else having this problem but from different causes.

the patch didnt work 4 me acer r shits they dont help at all the call centre people r mongs an are under qualified to watch paint dry its just fudgeing stupid
hey I downloaded the patch and it sign me on to messenger for about 10 seconds then stopped working again with the same problem..I even removed Acer Edata security and it work for a bit until I restarted my computer then it went back to being the same way…

Hey! I just read about your postings about the DEP and the acers security issues with msn messenger.. I was having the same problems, and just starting running vista (taking tylenol for the problem lol ) but I ran that security fix on here, and thanks a bunch,, now it works great!

Totally work, trust me, just give this a damn try it will cost u about 0.01 second
The solution is find the original messegre file
In my case its
c:/ Program files/ windows live/msnmsgr
Right click and run as administator
This should solve the problem,
If this doesnt work try disablling dep for that program and try again

ths s the site for the patch from acer i tried the mirror patch but i was affaid to use it because it say it was a high risk for unknown developer, the acer patch was low risk

I’ve got a Dell laptop, no problem until i updated the windows live messenger to current version. Now DEP keeps crashing it! I can’t disable it, wont’ allow me and can’t find a fix. Someone somewhere on a site (I’ve been looking forever!) had something to put into Command Prompt but that didn’t work either! I uninstalled current version and of course when i installed later version, nope they’ll only allow one running now!!
