Did you think Fanatic looked ugly? I did, so I gave it a makeover.
This wonderful theme is known as K2, an advanced open source template for WordPress. It is essentially version 2 of the default Kubrick theme for WordPress, having more heart and soul.
Apart from the header, I haven’t done a lot of design customizing to it, but I will be tinkering with things in the future. The downside here is it’s not unique, you are bound to see similar looking blogs on the internet.
For the curious, these are the plugins I am using:
- Akismet
- Category Image(s)
- Edit Comments
- Extended Live Archives
- Favatars
- Google Sitemaps
- Noteworthy
- Page Links To
- Quoter
- Time Since
- Ultimate Tag Warrior
- WP-Polls
- WP-PostViews
I’m pleased to now be using K2 after discovering it a few months ago. At the same time I heard about Ultimate Tag Warrior and realized the author lives in the same city as me, which I thought was quite cool considering how small New Zealand is.
As usual, if you think I’ve missed something that needs attention, leave a comment or send me an email and I’ll get on it.
What does everyone think of the new look?
Yer, I noticed the new look to the site like two days ago and thought “woah, it looks pretty cool now!” and then went “Wait a minute, theres now link to the forums.” and then the next day there was a link in the navbar.
Sorry to double post, but I think it would be a good idea if you made the favicon have a transparent background.
Edit: By the way, is the footer meant to say “Current style is Fanatics 1.0″ or Current style is Fanatic 1.0″?

I ran out of time when I started applying the theme a few days ago, so it was sitting there incomplete for a while. No forum link was a result of that

Good idea, I will see how it looks.
Now the actual website is complete, but what about the forum favicon

Done :p
I like the new look. It’s advanced, futuristic-ish (modern), and much like how Microsoft’s trying to make their GUIs like! XP And the search thing at the sidebar is so awesome. ^^ Type and search! Just like how all the major corporations are doing it these days. Good job! =) And yeah. Everything’s tied together, shiny, and presented in a nice packaged wrapped in paper printed with Santa Claus and Rudolph on it. =P (Sorry I couldn’t really help out with the designing bit. ^^;)
K2 has a cool styles system which basically lets you override the default styles. In this case it’s primarily the header, see here. Maybe a Christmas style would be fun
I want emoticons on, but I don’t really like the WordPress default ones, so testing another plugin,

Didn’t see your edit before. It’s meant to be Fanatics, the site is often informally referred to as fanatics (as a group of a fanatics).
OK, thank you for replying & for listening to suggestions.
Keep up the good work!
Now I wanna make a wordpress with K2, could you maybe help me with customising it if I decide to?
Also, are you ever gonna put the download pages back up?
It’s really impressive and nice for my eyes. Nice to see that you’re doing a super great job.
I think you’re forgetting about two very special kiwi made plugins
- WP e-Commerce
- WP Campaign Monitor
I’m being cheeky – my company made these and I found your site while doing a search for wordpress plugins in New Zealand so I thought I’d introduce myself!
Ciao,… Dan
I think we have already met, you were at Natcoll a few months ago talking to students and checking out their work, right? I was one of those students.
