I received error 80048820 on msn and could not send emails after upgrading my Belkin modem router firmware.

I spoke to BT and told them I suspected the default MTU of 1432 was causing problems and asked what value they recommended. The woman told me to leave the setting at default as routers are set correctly, and that the supported range in the docs was 1450 to 1500. (Spot the deliberate mistake :P) So I tried 1458 next with no luck, and then 1500 MTU for which everything connected fine.

OK windows live messenger was working just fine until i installed the update for internet explorer (internet explorer 8). it suddenly stopped working. i tried everything, from proxy to time zone etc…….to no avail…
then i decided to uninstall the update and surprise !!!! it worked again…..
so i think u should try to keep older versions of internet explorer and do not update ur browser at the moment…..u can use an alternative browser like opera or mozilla and keep the same old version of internet explorer.

I've tried everything everyone on here has said.. and yet when I try to sign into msn, it still says there is a problem with the Key Ports, I've even gone to the extreme of deleting all the programs off the computer, and then re-installing them after I tried signing in without anything on. This is ridiculous. Plus the fact, It's school holidays, and windows live messenger is the only way I can talk to my buddies!
Please help!
