Sign in issues are a problem many Messenger users face. To help find out what the problem might be, we are presented with an error code, but what happens when there are two error codes at once? I don’t know myself, but I just experienced it.
The 80048820 error I see regularly, usually just when it times out, but the 80048411 I have never seen and I can’t find anyone else who has reported getting it. My guess is it’s just a quirk in the current release of Windows Live Messenger. Would be interested to hear from anyone else who has experienced anything similar.

where do you get the time from or do u just get it from ur own clock coz it still wont sign in from what tim said and my internets fine
hi all , my advice to every one has this problem or similer one is to do these steps first :
1- if you have connected to msn messenger before this error occurs ( what ever messenger version you might have ) the way to solve this error is to disconnect dial up and redail and when connected sign in again in messenger and thats it .
2- if you are using DSL switch your modem off and then on and once you are online sign in again in messenger and you will be connected soon .the reason of the connection errors in msn messenger is most probably because of the network problems and not your computer nor your messenger settings .
3- for dsl users go to your modem setting page and change the value for MTU to 1400 instead of auto or 1500 then save the settings and reconnect with messenger ,this configuration will solve the error 80048820 .

I am such a nob.. i fort msn was not working and it completely had me baffled for like 2 weeks arrgghh.. but then i checked my clock and my month was wrong .. obv left it on march when i searched for my b’day by mistake..now i changed it to december and i signed on..
So anyone out there that is struggeling to sign on check the clock and see if the month is right if not put the time right.

Thanks JIM. I just changed the year, and my Msn is working again, for some reason the date of my computer was 2,000.
I had the problem today, and i ran the troubleshooter. I think for me, the problem was linked to Internet Explorer somehow, because the troubleshooter ran and all the criteria had the little green ticks beside it except for the one which deals with Internet Explorer’s work offline setting. The space beside that one was blank.
I went into IE with the intention of googling the error code that i got, and the only page which is loading at the moment is the google search results page. Every link I click won’t load, instead it says something like Bad Request, or something like that. I opened Firefox instead (my main browser) and googled the error code. It worked, and somewhow, when i tried to sign into messenger again, it signed in, no problems. I didnt have to change any settings or anything…
Dear Friend,
I have checked the time,date and year and it is perfect.
I even synchronise it also.
I had changed the settings of my modem ( MTU 1450) and restart it.
Even then not able to log on to window messenger.
Please advise.

Unbelieveable, I’m such an idiot, it was the date!! I almost throw my laptop out the window!!! make sure you double check the date and time!!!!!! I just looked at the time and not the DATE!!!!!
defo check your time, date & year on your computer display. i got two errors 80048820 & 80048412 i checked & it solved my problem after 2 months of trying!!! check the real time on internet if you have too.

I tried eveything time and date on my computer and the internet didnt solve my problem, firewall didnt solve my problem, re-installed messenger 8.5 still didnt work, went on “run” added few stuff it still didnt work… what should I do ??? am losT…
