I didn’t post about this here, but the Messenger team were looking for people who got error 80048883 during sign in with the latest build of MSN Messenger 7.5. They quickly got their people and have come up with a solution.
Leah has posted the following to her Messenger blog:
If you are using MSN Messenger 7.5, please follow the steps below:
- Go to http://clientconfig.passport.net/ppcrlconfig.bin
- Download that file
- Rename it to ppcrlconfig.dll
- Drop it in C:\Documents and Settings\[Windows USER]\Application Data\Microsoft\IdentityCRL\
- Attempt to sign in again.
- If you can’t get to http://clientconfig.passport.net/ppcrlconfig.bin, then email txtest_johnweis@msn.com
There are also some steps for Windows Live Messenger, but they are the generic troubleshooting steps and is very long, view the post to see them.
i followed the steps given but my messenger still doesn’t work

It says to drop it in…. Application data\Microsoft\IdentityCRL\ but I dont have those as an option? Mine goes as far as USER? What should I do?
I tried to add a folder with App…. name…. however it wont let me, says that name already exist? Then I tried to screach it, and I got a white screen and no folder with that name came up? I’m lost?
Ive got this probalem and ive tried every solution i have found on the net. None have worked. I have tried uninstalling then reinstalling msn, clearing out msn messenger in the registry editor the ppcrlconfig.bin in the directory everything and still the problem exists. And whats weird when u type ur email in the login thing wen u start msn, the letters u type into the email box take ages to appear. I can still sign into Windows Messenger fine but Windows Messenger sux and lately so does msn…Microsoft need to fix this the slack bums this is abug so fix it
Yeah I agree with this post b4 me… im having the same trouble with the login letters being slow… but I have found out something that might give us a clue When I did the run progam dll file thing when i got to regsvr32 slbcsp.dll i cicked run and its said it has failed and the specifice module cannot be found… I tried everywhere to download it… no luck im haveing not luck with downloading service packs because im having issues with my active x… this is so funny. I just installed a brand new hard drive and I cant do anything. Ive just installed windows xp pro lite. And leads? Thanks
