Just a couple of days ago I got an update prompt while using 7.5.0311 and thought build 322 was being deployed. Sure enough, a post on the Messenger Support Space has appeared about it and claims to have fixed the dreaded 80048820 error which made an appearance with MSN Messenger 7.5
If you haven’t been prompted to update (which is likely if you can’t sign in…), go grab it from the MSN Messenger Web site and see if that darn error has disappeared.
what i need to do clock don’t help internet options don’t help :S
I tried everything to fix this and no luck – so instead re-installed all the drivers for my pc – network card drivers, video card driver etc etc etc and then re-booted. Started MSN again and tried to login and it worked! Took about 18hrs but got there in the end!
Good luck.

6. Adjust the Microsoft Internet Explorer security settings:
a. Start Internet Explorer.
b. On the “Tools” menu, click” Internet Options,” and then click the “Advanced” tab.
c. In the “Security” section, verify the following settings:
-Clear the “Check for server certificate revocation” check box.
-Select the “Use SSL 2.0″ check box.
-Select the “Use SSL 3.0″ check box.
d. Click “OK” to close the window.
double click on your clock and go to the internet time tab and update the time. it took me 3 days to figure out that was the only problem.
OMG! IT FINALLY FECKING WORKED!
I cannot thank you guys enough. Just try removing the certificate on internet explorer!
I LOVE YOU!
