Two months ago after upgrading the forum software to IPB 2.1, I made use of its new RSS features. One feature is being able to import RSS feeds into a specific forum, aptly named The Newsroom. It’s currently linked to 15 different RSS feeds from sites and blogs relating to MSN and Messenger. I lost the exact list I compiled, but I will add it to the forum information at the top when it’s next updated with new feeds.
The best bit is, there’s also an RSS feed export for this forum, so you can get news from various sites in one single spot and straight to your PC with an RSS reader. The URL to the feed is http://forums.msnfanatic.com/index.php?act=rssout&id=1.
I will also be using this feed for a single news page I’ve had planned for a while, where news from all the sites comes together into one page.

It was pointed out to me that msnfanatic.com/net/info variants of sub-domains are still linked to. A quick Google search shows there’s a fair amount, so I figured it’s worth making them active and redirect them to where they’re supposed to go. Newly active sub-domains are:
forums.msnfanatic.net
tabserve.msnfanatic.net
forums.msnfanatic.info
tabserve.msnfanatic.info
msnpiki.msnfanatic.net
blockchecker.msnfanatic.net
triople.msnfanatic.com
triople.msnfanatic.net
Ridiculous, isn’t it?
msnfanatic.net and msnfanatic.info were only temporary at the time, but there’s still a lot of sites linking to these domains. msnfanatic.com is the primary one.

Scott Swanson has posted on the MSDN forum for MSN Messenger about a chance to win one of five invites to officially get to use Windows Live Messenger! You need to create an application for the World’s Best App contest using the MSN Messenger Acvitity SDK and submit it between today to Monday, so get cracking guys!

It’s fast approaching one year since the launch of the current look msnfanatic Web site and has now been one year since I became an MVP, time has flown by quite fast for me, and I haven’t been putting as much into the Web site as I intended. I can’t speak for anyone else, but I’m disappointed with the Web site at the moment, things have fallen behind, content has become redundant, and it’s overall been neglected as I’ve been putting my time into other things and side projects. Thankfully, the community backing is great and the forum is staying steady, things have definitely picked up with the announcement of Live Messenger.
Over the past few months, I have been putting together new bits and pieces for a new Web site. It’s still early days yet, so I can’t give any specifics or time frames, but I’m certain there’s a fair bit of change of direction coming into place. I am open to users’ input, feel free to post in the feedback forum, or contact me directly at daniel@msnfanatic.com.
Regarding the new Web site, I have recently realized the current resources just aren’t enough to fulfill goals, and with the announcement of Live Messenger I have had a rethink. The next Web site will be more of a temporary thing, and be more blog orientated, not having any proper features. Once this is done, I will focus more on the ‘next-gen’ Web site, which I have intended to coincide with Windows Live Messenger for quite some time, as I had a fair impression that some big changes were coming from MSN (but a name change wasn’t one of them!). Turns out this ‘temporary’ solution is better than expected and I can see it being used for quite a long time. The twist mentioned below is gone for now.
This hasn’t been set in stone yet, but the next-gen Web site will have a little twist — good for me, and hopefully for everyone else, as it will change a lot of things, I’ll leave you guessing what it is at this stage. It’s not a name change, but that is on the agenda, still undecided.

Unofficially, the latest build of what was branded just Messenger 8 Beta has been changed to Windows Live Messenger. The only changes to me are minor interface changes/updates/fixes as well as the free virus scanner has been enabled to download, but at this stage unable to download. Of course, discussing the latest build 8.0.0328, head into the forum.
