Tiger 0.0.1 for MSN Messenger 6.2 enables access to AIM/ICQ

Tiger 0.0.1 for MSN Messenger 6.2 enables access to AIM/ICQ services, it is cool to talk with your AIM/ICQ buddies in MSN Messenger. It is still in early development at version 0.0.1, so not recommended if you’re not a geek :P

If you try and send a file with one of these extensions, your contact will recieve this message:

emailhere@msn.com tried to send you a file (filename.extension). This file has been blocked because it is potentially unsafe.

Me, personally hope you can choose to accept the file so you dont have to send via another method such as email in the next version.

MSN Messenger 7.0 beta fact sheet

I was just browsing around at Microsoft PressPass and noticed that they have updated the MSN Messenger fact sheet to MSN Messenger 7.0 beta. It says December 2004, so it’s been there a while, but nevertheless it is an interesting read. There’s also one for MSN Spaces beta as well.

Also worth a read on PressPass is A Guide to MSN Communication Services: MSN Spaces, MSN Messenger, MSN Hotmail, it contains alot of information on MSN “Wave 10″.

SNS Bank and MSN made a small mistake

SNS Bank has introduced Bill. A micro-payment system which uses MSN Messenger.

People could give up their email and they would be mailed when the service would start. And yes, they mailed. One problem: they send out the email, but with everyone in the TO: field. What does that mean? Everyone receiving the mail can see your email. So much for privacy and the assurance that they won’t leak your email.

Next time, please use the BCC =)

MSN Messenger 7.0.732 now available on Beta Place

Build 732 of MSN Messenger 7 has been released to beta testers, the top changes in this build are:

  • You may now use Dynamic Display Pictures
  • You may now send text messages to T-Mobile mobile phones in addition to Verizon Wireless
  • The maximum number of contacts you can add has been increased to 300 contacts (as of 3/21 for all MSN Messenger customers)
  • All references to “.NET Passport” have been changed to “Microsoft Passport” (if not, let us know!)
  • Fixed: Cannot exit handwriting mode if selected with a contact who cannot view handwriting
  • Fixed: Single pixel black border around display pictures
  • Fixed: Online contacts appear in the “Offline” group

Known issues in this version:

  • MSN Messenger now requires Internet Explorer 6.0
  • “Offline Messaging” actually refers to offline mobile messaging. Clearer text will be used in the final product
  • Short-cut key for “Always Sign in as” (Alt+G) does not work
  • Screen saver or monitor power saver may kick in during a Video Conversation

Log into BetaPlace and click on the “Known Issues” link to see the entire list of known issues.

This build also features the ability to purchase Winks and Dynamic Display Pictures, to extend testing, every beta tester will receive a pin they can use to purchase free Winks and Dynamic Display Pictures in the next couple of days.

Hopefully, this will put an end to all the speculation about animated GIF display pictures, that’s not what Dynamic Display Pictures are!
