In MSN Messenger 5, the Messenger 1.0 Type Library isn’t available, but the other library, Messenger API Type Library still is. It has some good functionality, but it is a lot more limited than Messenger 1.0 Type Library.
Please note that there is no property to change your friendly name with the Messenger API Type Library, although it can be done using a bit of Win32 API, this is explained at the end of the article.

But if you did the smart thing and downloaded it while you still had the chance, vorte[x] has made an ad removal patch already, download it from Neowin. Please note that some users have reported faliure in getting the patch to work, however it does work on Windows 98 and Windows XP.
Many users are having trouble installing the recently leaked MSN Messenger 6. However, this is not due to the thoughts that MSN Messenger 6 only works on XP, regardless of what Neowin have reported.
Users that are having trouble installing, simply need to update their installer software to Windows Installer 2.0.
This upgrade only works for certain versions of Windows, if it doesn’t work for you, simply check out Microsoft’s download center for one that corresponds to your OS.
